A shocking experience

In addition to the outdoor farm, we also have and indoor space dedicated to raising the hatchlings and preparing the adults for shipping out into the world. In this space, they are all well contained in specially designed “beds” where they are treated to their favorite foods, given daily showers and generally crawl about of their own free will. While some might imagine a room with snails crawling on the walls and ceilings, this isn’t actually the case and we do have a method of reigning them in while still allowing them roaming room. The answer: tiny 6-volt electric fences. While it does deliver a bit of a jolt, it’s harmless to the snails. We’ve actually discovered they’re pretty smart as it generally takes only two or three jolts before they learn not to cross the line. Take a look at this short clip of the fence in action:
